eVisa
Member's guide to the eVisa system
The eVisa
The eVisa is an online record of your immigration status, and the conditions attached to it.
It will contain similar information to that on your Biometric Residence Permit and it will be accessible via your UKVI account. You must create a UKVI account by 31/12/2024.
Updating to the new eVisa does not affect your immigration status or the conditions of your leave.
The eVisa is replacing the following documents:
- biometric residence permits (BRP)
- biometric residence cards (BRC)
- passport endorsements, such as indefinite leave to enter wet ink stamps
- vignette stickers in passports, such as entry clearance or visa vignettes

Your eVisa is registered to your passport number, so remember to keep your details up to date! An out of date passport number, address or contact information may result in you being refused boarding and/or unnecessary delays . You need to carry your BRP with you when travelling until the end of 2024. Form 2025, you will only need to carry your passport with you when travelling. If you have updated your passport information but have not yet received confirmation that your account has been updated, remember to carry your old document (the one still linked to your UKVI account) when travelling as well as your new passport.
There is nothing you need to do, UKVI will contact you via email once your eVisa is available to view.
Until the end of 2024 you will need to carry your BRP with you, including when traveling, even if you have already registered for the eVisa.
We also recommend keeping your BRP safe as it may help with future applications, and for your own personal records.
You should follow the usual visa application process and there will be information on creating your UKVI account during the application process.
