The beauty of Kerala, known as "God's Own Country," has always been a source of pride and joy for its residents and admirers worldwide. However, nature's unpredictable fury has once again reminded us of the fragile balance we live in.
The landslide has not only claimed lives but also disrupted the livelihoods of countless individuals, leaving them in a state of despair.
As a nurse originally from Kerala, I feel a deep sense of sorrow and empathy for the people affected by the recent landslide in Kerala. This tragic incident has caused immense loss and devastation, impacting the lives of many families, friends, and communities in the region.This is the second major tragedy in recent years to hit the area with over 500 people killed by a major flood in 2018 – the worst flood in almost a century.
As nurses first and foremost and as members of the 汤头条污料, we understand the importance of compassion and care.
Like myself, there are many nurses across the North West region and the UK, who have been recruited from Kerala to work as clinicians in the UK. Last year alone, India was in the top 5 countries of training for new joiners to the register outside of the EEA with 14,615 (49.3%) making up one of the largest groups of international joiners to the UK register, as well as making up one of the the two largest groups of international nurses on the permanent register overall. *
Many of us will have friends and family directly affected by this incident and are now desperate for news, updates and are also seeking compassion and understanding from our colleagues and employers.
The RCN is also committed to providing support to our members affected by this tragedy. We encourage all our members to reach out and access the support services available to them. Together, we can make a difference and help rebuild the lives of those impacted by this terrible incident.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families who have lost their loved ones, and to those who are struggling to cope with the aftermath of this disaster. And my thoughts are firmly with the brave and united people of Kerala at this time. Let us stand by them, offering our support in any way we can.
