Planning and investment failures left public and NHS unprepared for Covid-19, RCN tells inquiry

Rose Gallagher, Professional Lead for Infection Prevention and Control at the RCN said: “The UK and the NHS was not prepared for the Covid-19 pandemic because the government focused on the most predictable risk – influenza, or flu – despite warnings from experts including the RCN who raised concerns about other organisms with pandemic potential."

Public support for nurse strike has risen six months after first industrial action

RCN General Secretary and Chief Executive, Pat Cullen, said: “Public support this year has been immense but ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ staff have not taken it for granted. To know that our patients still support our campaign for fair pay is a real shot in the arm. Nurses should see that the public backs them and they can back themselves."

Nursing numbers plummet and waiting lists soar while government delays workforce plan, says RCN

RCN General Secretary and Chief Executive, Pat Cullen, said: “These figures paint a disturbing picture for patients in hospitals and ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ homes, in the community and in their own homes. The crisis in the ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ workforce is leaving patient care at risk and the immense pressure could risk the collapse of health and care services."

ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ responds to DHSC announcement on NHS staff pay

RCN Executive Director for Pay, Colin Poolman, said: “Our members have spoken loud and clear – their pay is far from fair and appropriate. It in no way matches the value or importance of ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ staff who have experienced a real-terms pay cut for the last decade.

ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ responds to the Strikes Bill

An RCN spokesperson said: “We continue to oppose this Bill which seeks to curtail the freedoms that workers have to stand up for their rights. The news that the Commons have rejected an amendment which would have prevented striking ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ staff facing dismissal is very disappointing. We call on the Lords to stand by the change they made."
